A Fan Theory Reveals the True Identity of Andy’s Mom in Toy Story

Clocking in at 15 films, the Pixar universe has grown to be pretty expansive. But what if the Easter eggs that run through each film actually prove that they exist in the same universe? A self-proclaimed “Pixar Theorist” devised that award-winning theory --  and he’s now come up with a new concept that reveals the identity of Andy’s Mom in Toy Story!

Warning: Spoilers for the theory below!

Andy (and mom)

Andy (and mom)

Jon Negroni posted the theory on his site, explaining that Andy’s Mom (Ms. Davis) is the young girl from the Toy Story 2 flashbacks. The girl is shown to have once owned the cowgirl toy, Jesse, but gave her away. Negroni points out that Andy’s cowboy hat in the first film bears a shocking resemblance to the hat Jesse wears. Negroni deduces that, impacted by nostalgia, Ms. Davis would have bought Andy the hat, in honor of her favorite childhood toy.

Sure, the theory is devised by a fan (and isn’t confirmed as Pixar canon), but it definitely fits the theme of being able to move on from your toys and pass them on to a new generation. Unfortunately, they can sometimes end up in the hands of a creepy collector (but you’re not automatically creepy if you leave your toys in the package, okay?).

You can check out Negroni’s full theory about Andy’s Mom here.
