King Abandons 'Candy' Trademark

The Candy Crush Saga publisher's controversial quest to trademark the word "candy" has finally come to an end. Kotaku reported that King filed to abandon the trademark yesterday with the U.S. Trademark Office.

King originally requested to trademark the word "candy" in 2013 and was approved earlier this year. The publisher also sought after the word "saga." Their trademark caused legal issues for The Banner Saga and other games with titles including the words "candy" or "saga." In response, developers created a game jam called Candy Jam and others wrote letters of protest.

King has yet to announce if they plan to relinquish their request for "saga" as well. IGN has reached out to King for a comment.
