Anomaly Developer Announces This War Of Mine

11 bit studios has announced its new intellectual property today, This War Of Mine.

As the title suggests, This War Of Mine is set during a time of open conflict in a modern day besieged city. But 11 bit studios has shifted the focus away from military operations, instead spotlighting a group of survivors trapped by the hostilities in a dark survival game.

Snipers surrounding their shelter prevent the survivors from leaving during the day, providing ample time to craft, upgrade the safe haven, trade or feed and nurse members of the group. While under the cover of night, they must leave to scavenge food, supplies and weapons.

This War Of Mine will reportedly call for life-and-death decisions to be made on the fly, requiring you to manage your group and decide if everyone lives, or what sacrifices must be made to ensure survival. But the most harrowing aspect of the game: it's inspired by true events.

“While designing a new game, we came across an article that described how one man survived in a besieged city," said Michal Drozdowski, 11 bit studios' lead designer. "This can happen in your city, in your country."

"We decided to work around this idea and make something real, something that moves people and make them think for a second. It's about time that games, just like any other art form, start talking about important things.”

Right now, very little information about This War Of Mine is available. But expect more to surface at next week's Game Developers Conference, and be sure to follow IGN's GDC news hub for all our event coverage.
