It's pretty obvious that Kevin Smith likes Batman. He's written two Batman mini-series with artist Walt Flanagan, with a third reportedly on the way. He also hosts the weekly Fat Man on Batman podcast. And Smith has an obvious affinity for Green Hornet as well, having once been attached to direct the big-screen revival and collaborating with Dynamite to turn his unused script into a comic series. So why not combine both interests together?
That seems to be the thinking behind DC's latest digital-first comic series, Batman '66 Meets Green Hornet. The project is a joint effort between DC and Dynamite. Smith will co-write the series with friend, podcast partner, and radio host Ralph Garman, with Ty Templeton providing the art. The series will be produced as 12 weekly digital chapters beginning in May, with the first print issue to follow in early June. Based on DC's previous digital projects, we expect each print issue to collect two or three digital chapters.
Fans of the Adam West/Burt Ward Batman series will probably remember that the heroes crossed paths with Van Williams' Green Hornet and Bruce Lee's Kato for two episodes. This 12-part storyline will serve as a sequel to that crossover, with the two Dynamic Duos again teaming up to battle the nefarious counterfeiter Colonel Gumm. The comic will also elaborate on the shared history between Bruce Wayne and Britt Reid that was hinted at in the original episodes.
DC's latest All-Access video feature has more information about the new series from Smith and Garman themselves:
Batman '66 Meets the Green Hornet #1 will be released digitally on May 21.
