It's a big week for photo reveals of DC Comics characters coming to TV. On the heels of a new photo of Grant Gustin as The Flash, from the CW TV pilot, NBC have now released the first photo of Matt Ryan (Assassin's Creed IV) as the title character in Constantine. And, well... he certainly looks like the guy we know from the comic book!
“I’ve been a fan of John Constantine since he was first introduced in 1985. This Constantine, envisioned by Neil Marshall and embodied by Matt Ryan, looks like he sprang directly from the comics’ covers. Fans old and new are going to be in for a treat,” said executive producer David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel) in a statement.
Goyer has a story credit on Constantine with Daniel Cerone (Dexter), with Cerone writing the pilot, which is being directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones).
Per the press release, Constantine "follows enigmatic and irreverent Liverpool con-man-turned-occult-detective John Constantine, who is reluctantly thrust into the role of defending our world against dark forces from beyond."
This is of course the second live-action version of the character, following the feature film which starred Keanu Reeves.
