Iron Man 3 and L.A. Confidential actor Guy Pearce will join Johnny Depp in the true crime drama Black Mass.

Depp stars as Boston crime lord/FBI informant James "Whitey" Bulger in the film. Variety reports that Pearce will play Whitey's kid brother William "Billy" Bulger, who became the most powerful politician in Massachusetts in the 1970s-'90s while his older brother solidified his criminal empire.
The cast also includes Joel Edgerton as John Connolly, an FBI agent who served as Whitey's informant handler and was corrupted by him. Pearce and Edgerton previously starred together in Animal Kingdom and The Hard Word.
Out of the Furnace's Scott Cooper is rewriting the script and will direct. Warner Bros. is distributing the film, which will film this summer in Boston.
