Oculus Hires Former Valve VR Engineer

Oculus has announced that it has hired Atman Binstock as its new Chief Architect. He will be leading the new Seattle-based Oculus research and development team.

Atman Binstock

Binstock was most recently one of the lead engineers on Valve's VR project. He has also led projects at major companies such as RAD, DICE, and Intel.

While Valve has previously created prototype VR headsets, the company recently announced that rather than pursuing development of its own headset, it will instead work on supporting the Oculus Rift.

"The way technological revolutions actually happen involve smart people working hard on the right problems at the right time. And if I wanted a revolution, and I thought I was capable of contributing, I should be actively pushing it forward," says Binstock, recalling his start in virtual reality research on the Oculus blog. "I signed up."

Shipments on Oculus Rift development kits have recently been shut down in many regions due to a parts shortage; Oculus states it will have more information on this "soon." We recently reported that Oculus is aiming to sell its VR headset at an affordable price for consumers.
