The highly anticipated The Raid 2: Berandal continues the story of the unstoppable cop Rama. Unstoppable, that is, except for technical difficulties.
On Sunday, SXSW's first showing of The Raid sequel was abruptly canceled due to technical issues -- those issues being that the wrong (un-subtitled) version of the film had been downloaded to the theater's servers.
Luckily for the disappointed filmgoers, director Gareth Evans is not one to leave fans empty-handed. Evans asked two of his stars, Iko Uwais (Rama) and Yayan Ruhian (Prakoso), to come up onstage and give the fans an impromptu demonstration of their skills. Fortunately for those of us who couldn't make it to the Texas film festival, the good folks at Austin-based geek news site One of Us caught the action on camera.
Whether that demonstration was a recreation of a fight from the film or choreographed off the top of their heads, the cooperation, speed and finesse are pretty incredible to watch. It may not rival the brutal brawls the audience was expecting to see, but that improvised skirmish is quite the testament to the skill of the actors involved.
As for the fans who ultimately missed out on the highly-anticipated premiere, don't worry too much. The festival added two additional screenings on Monday and Tuesday.
The Raid 2 hits theaters March 28.
