Last month we traveled to Tokyo to visit Dark Souls II developers FromSoftware and capture an inside look at the game's development. While they put the final touches on Dark Souls II, we discussed their original project goals and challenges, and the philosophies and processes that led to the final product.
Following the release of Dark Souls in 2011, FromSoftware identified aspects of the game that could be refined and expanded upon. Starting with building a new engine from scratch, they show how they created a larger, more fully realized world, hoping to better deliver the core Dark Souls experience.
From grotesque undead, to giant, powerful dragons, Dark Souls II's atmosphere and punishing difficulty rely greatly on the creatures that populate the world. See how FromSoftware creates, places, and tunes the enemies, bringing the challenge to life.
