Shiftylook, a Namco Bandai subsidiary that primarily makes comics and browser-based games, is closing, along with several of its titles, because of undisclosed reasons. ShiftyLook was founded to carry out the revival of a handful of Namco Bandai properties, including Wonder Momo and Bravoman.
"The idea was to take the unused, 'sleeping' video game characters of our past and bring them back first with webcomics, and then – once they had gotten enough traction – expand into other media like web animation, games, and merchandise," a statement reads in a ShiftyLook newsletter.
"That said, now that we have successfully revived so many franchises, the heavy lifting is completed – and so is our work. We battled the video games abyss and won, which means it's time for us to move on and let the hit-makers play with some new toys."
Namco High, which featured a plethora of Namco characters, will have its servers shut down June 30, 2014. Bravoman: Binja Bash will be available on the App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore until March 30, although in-app purchases end March 16. The Wonder Momo name will continue, however, in WayForward Technologies' upcoming project, which was first announced in January. A Wonder Momo hardcover comic is also on the way from UDON Entertainment.
