PixelJunk Shooter Coming to PS4 and Vita

How does a developer follow-up putting a stellar collection of classic PlayStation Network games like PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD? If you’re Double Eleven, you move on to the next PixelJunk property.

The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita are getting PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, a digital title that combines PixelJunk Shooter and PixelJunk Shooter 2 into one “flowing” narrative.

The ultimate.

The ultimate.

Originally developed by Q-Games, the PixelJunk Shooter games are twin-stick shooters where players take their ships up against all manner of hazard in an attempt to save stranded astronauts. Double Eleven is tweaking that engaging gameplay and throwing in a number of improvements. There’s new visual effects, 60 frames-per-second gameplay, and 3D ships.

“We knew the amount work that Q-Games put into the original level design by hiding challenge inside of simplicity, providing control over the ship’s balance between momentum and inertia, and we held those things as constants,” said Double Eleven’s Mark South. “There were two solid games to play with, so our goals were going to be around making the combat more engaging, providing better control and visual feedback to the player as well bringing in some PlayStation features we think are must haves like Cross Play and Cross Save.”

No word on cross-buy, but PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate will also include local co-op for the campaign, online multiplayer battles, and leaderboards. Look for it on the PlayStation Network this summer.
