Crystal Dynamics boss Darrell Gallagher has announced the studio’s 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider will surpass six million copies sold by the end of this month.
Gallagher revealed the news in a post on the official Tomb Raider blog.
Noting it was, in fact, one year ago this week that Tomb Raider was released Gallagher said “the team at Crystal has been overwhelmed with the way it was so warmly received by both critics and gamers.”
Tomb Raider, which became profitable late in 2013 after making news shortly after its release for failing to meet Square-Enix’s extremely aggressive sales expectations, was recently released on two additional platforms (Xbox One and PS4) and is expected to exceed six million copies sold by the end of March.
“At launch we set franchise records for the fastest selling day one and month one in Tomb Raider history,” wrote Gallagher. “With the positive word of mouth and continued commercial momentum it’s great to see Tomb Raider on course to become the best-selling game in the history of the franchise! This would be a crowning achievement for the teams around the world, and one that we have our sights firmly set on!”
