Tougher Dungeons Coming to Final Fantasy 14

In preparation for Patch 2.2, which is scheduled to launch sometime before the end of march, Square Enix released a preview of several new dungeons that will accompany the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn update.

Because of the fact that many players will have higher level characters and gear leading into patch 2.2, Square is making the new dungeons more difficult than the existing environments, according to the game's website. The first of the new dungeons, the Lost City of Amdapor, requires that disciples of War or Magic have achieved level 50, and that they have completed the quest called "The Ultimate Weapon" before entering. Amdapor has a 90-min. time limit.

The last two dungeons, Halatali and Brayflox's Longstop, are the Hard Mode dungeons being delivered with patch 2.2. Brayflox's Longstop hosts the same prerequisites as Amdapor. In "Curds and Slay," the Longstop's accompanying quest, players have to defend the place from intruders, while assisting a known thief that frequents the area.

Halatali is a fabled training grounds, and also has a level 50 minimum requirement for players to enter. Along with "The Ultimate Weapon," players must have completed the original Halatalo dungeon to partake in "This Time's for Fun," the 90-min. quest inside the halls of Halatali.

PS3 players will be able to transfer all of their FFXIV accounts to PS4 for free on April 11, three days before the April 14 launch. Once the accounts are transferred, however, the PS3 copy will be deactivated. And, beginning April 4, the first day of FFXIV's second beta, any character progress made will transfer over to PS4.

In December, Square Enix cited FFXIV's success as the reason for the company's return to profit last year, with 1.5 million registered accounts following the game's relaunch after a tortured development cycle.
