Project Milo, the virtual boy used to showcase the first Kinect device when it was known only as Project Natal, has no hope of a reboot on the new Kinect for Xbox One.
Microsoft studios VP Phil Spencer tweeted in response to a fan requesting a reboot, signaling that Milo isn't coming back. "Idea was compelling and we learned a lot creatively, but we struggled to get a full game out of it," he added.
Milo was first introduced at E3 2009, as part of a short tech demo presented by then-boss of Lionhead Peter Molyneux. It was an ambitious idea, a virtual personality that would learn and talk with you. But as time wore on, the project seemed to be slowly abandoned. In 2010, Aaron Greenberg said that development was continuing, but that Microsoft wasn't planning to bring it to market during that holiday season. Later that year, we heard reports that the team had been refocused on a Kinect Fable game, which presumably became Fable: The Journey.
The new iteration of Kinect might have been a second chance for Milo to become a real boy, given the increased fidelity of the device. But that isn't in the cards according to Microsoft.
