German actor Thomas Kretschmann, who was recently cast as the evil Baron Wolfgang von Strucker in Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron, will get to play yet another bad guy in Agent 47, the sequel to 2007’s Hitman.
The story, based on the popular video game series, sees Rupert Friend (Homeland) as the titular Agent 47, a bald-headed, barcoded badass who gallivants around the globe killing folks all stealthy-like. (The role was originally intended for the late Paul Walker.)
Kretschmann joins Zachary Quinto on the evil side of the table, playing Le Clerq, “the chairman of an organization called Syndicate International, which is set on creating an army of unstoppable agents.” Presumably we’re talking about assassins here, not talent agents.
Kretschmann is already a big name in Europe with hit releases like Stalingrad breaking all sorts of records. He’s appeared stateside most recently as Abraham Van Helsing in NBC’s Dracula series.
Agent 47 is currently filming in Berlin.
