17th Century Action-Adventure Betrayer Releases This Month

Blackpowder Games has today announced that its debut title, Betrayer, will release for PC on March 24.

Betrayer

Set in 1604, Betrayer is a supernatural first-person action-adventure in which players must learn what happened to the inhabitants of an abandoned New World colony.

It's a far cry from the back catalog of the indie studio's seven-man development team. Many of its members were formerly of Monolith Productions, where they worked on games series such as FEAR and No One Lives Forever.

"We've been wanting to create a player-driven game that emphasizes exploration and discovery with minimal hand-holding,” says designer and writer, Craig Hubbard.

"When you’re setting out to create a first person action game with seven people, the biggest fear is that you’ll make something redundant: a cheap version of a bigger, better title. But I feel confident saying you haven’t played anything quite like this.”

Betrayer is currently available for the early access price of $15, but this will be bumped up to $20 upon official release. The original FEAR and No One Lives Forever games both received Editor's Choice reviews from IGN, so we're keen to see how Betrayer turns out.
