IGN Has Your Back: Don't Use DirectSong.com

Editor's Note: Welcome to IGN Has Your Back - our new consumer advocacy column. If you've been wronged by a video game company and they haven't resolved your complaint, let us know.

Brian Armstrong purchased a Guild Wars 2 soundtrack from DirectSong.com in June 2013. Nine months later he’s still received nothing, and his requests for help have gone unanswered.

After hearing nothing from DirectSong, Armstrong reached out to IGN:

“...I purchased the Guild Wars 2 soundtrack from DirectSong.com on June 11. In October, I submitted a help ticket saying I hadn’t received my order. They never responded. I just submitted another ticket today (1/22/2014), 28 weeks after my initial purchase.”

We can't recommend doing business with DirectSong.

We reached out to DirectSong in early February with a “critical priority” help ticket explaining the situation. Over a month later, that ticket is still labeled "unassigned." DirectSong offers no other clear way to request help, so we reached out a second time through the Better Business Bureau (BBB). We still haven't gotten a response.

DirectSong holds an “F” rating with the BBB. Of the 83 complaints filed against DirectSong, 77 are related to delivery issues. A quick Google search also turns up forums packed with customers complaining about similar issues with the company. Armstrong is definitely not alone with his frustrations.

Armstrong's story has a happy ending - we managed to get him a copy of the Guild Wars 2 soundtrack courtesy of ArenaNet, the game's developer. Unfortunately, but understandably, ArenaNet won’t be able to assist others who have this issue.

Based on this situation, and on the rating assigned by the BBB, and finally DirectSong's lack of responsiveness, we can't recommend doing business with the company until it does right by its customers whose money was taken in exchange for nothing.
