True Detective's first season, and the stand-alone story of Marty Hart and Rust Cohle, comes to a close this Sunday night with the finale "Form and Void."
Suffice to say, this show has made an impact in its two months on the air, and while we could prep you for what's sure to be a jaw-dropping endgame by reviewing the various crimes, clues, and theories thus far, we thought you'd rather have a few laughs at this point.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when it comes to the web you might want to throw the word "parody" in there as well. And it says a lot about the high quality and engrossing nature of True Detective that it can handle a bit of a beating and still remain many folks' top TV obsession.
So let's poke a bit of fun at the pragmatic pessimism of Rust and the self-serving delusions of Marty and enjoy some of the internet's best jabs at True Detective.
First, there's The Soup's spoof of the show, starring Joel McHale as Rust and McHale's Community co-star Jim Rash as Marty...
Then there's the expertly done True Detective/Law & Order credits mashup...
Speaking of credits, here are a few fresh takes on True Detective's opening, with some inspiring ideas for lead characters....
Ever wonder what it was that Marty saw on Billy Lee Tuttle's VHS tape in last week's episode? The secret that made him sick to his stomach?
And of course, someone had to bring up McConaughey's own "dark period" of worthless romantic comedies. This one goes on a bit too long, but comedian Jon Rudnitsky's McConaughey is on point.
Enjoy the finale!
True Detective's Season 1 finale, "Form and Void," airs this Sunday, March 9th on HBO.
