Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune has announced he is working with Mega Man Zero studio Inti Creates on a new 2D side-scrolling action game, Azure Striker: Gunvolt.
Gunvolt is set in a dystopian future, in which the hero Gunvolt is tasked with assassinating a psychic girl for the Sumeragi Group. Once he refuses, he's forced to go on the run from Sumeragi's forces, which apparently include super-powered beings. The look from the trailer appears quite a bit like the Mega Man Zero series. It will release on the 3DS eShop in Japan. No North American release plans have been announced yet. IGN has contacted Inafune's representatives for additional information.
Since leaving Capcom, Inafune has been busy spreading himself among several projects. He is also developing Mighty No. 9, another game that looks remarkably like classic Mega Man games, while also consulting for projects like Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.
