New Roku Streaming Stick Launching April for $49.99

Roku has unveiled a new version of its Streaming Stick, which now works with more TVs and comes with a lower price tag. What Roku has essentially done is pack its set-top box into a small dongle that plugs into your television's HDMI port, giving you access to a wide selection of streaming services like Netflix, HBO Go, and Spotify.

The new Streaming Stick differs from the original model in a few ways. For one, the new version doesn't require an MHL connection for power, making it compatible with more television sets. The downside to this is that the attachment now needs to be powered by either USB or a power outlet, not unlike Google's Chromecast. The new Streaming Stick also requires a separate remote, which is included—the previous version could be controlled with your TV remote. Users will also be able to cast content from their mobile devices to their television using the new Streaming Stick, and the company plans to roll out the same feature for computers in the near future.

The new Roku Streaming Stick can be pre-ordered online now for $49.99 USD through Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and Roku, and is expected to launch in April. The unit will also be available in the UK for £49.99 and Canada for $59.99.
