Netflix is out to provide your latest televisual drug fix (oh we miss you, Breaking Bad) by releasing a new 13-episode series about Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Elysium Actor Wagner Moura will play the legendary Escobar and RoboCop remake director Jose Padilha will helm the series.
According to Brazilian magazine Folha de Sao Paulo, Moura will play Escobar, a main character in the upcoming English/Spanish-language series. Children of Men’s Eric Newman will produce, with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time writers Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard.
Series director Padilha expressed his confidence in the casting of Moura as Escobar, saying, “I believe Wagner [Moura] is going to rock as Escobar. He’s one of the finest actors in the world today.”
The show will focus on the drug-trafficking circuit from Columbia to Mexico, and of course the U.S. (where Escobar became in popular demand). Escobar was gunned down by the police in 1993.
Still in its infancy, the project doesn’t yet have an official title or release date.
